Over time from previous pregnancy, genetics, or aging, your breasts may begin to lose shape and firmness. A breast lift performed by Dr. Robert Heck can improve your body image and give you back that youthful contour. As women, we want to feel good and desirable and sagging breasts do not fit with that self image. Performing a breast lift is one of Dr. Heck’s most rewarding surgeries. It not only enhances a women’s appearance but truly can renew her confidence and self-esteem. There is no time like the present to regain control of your body and give yourself the beautiful and shapely breasts you deserve.
During your breast consultation you will have an opportunity to discuss your concerns and expectations with Dr. Heck. He will show you many preoperative and postoperative photographs, discuss the potential for adding a breast implant to add additional fullness if desired, and discuss the placement of incisions for your breast lift. We will also do our best to answer all your breast lift questions and review possible risks and limitations associated with the breast lift surgery. Our primary concern is that you are not only happy with your results but also have a safe and healthy recovery.
There are several different options in regard to placement of incisions when performing a breast lift. Dr. Heck takes into consideration the initial breast shape, projection, and the degree of ptosis (sagging) when deciding with you what technique would give you the best results. Ultimately, the final decision is up to you based on your wishes and expectations.
For a modest improvement to the breast, an incision can be made around the areola only.
For a more thorough remodeling of the breast, an incision can be made around the areola, and then down in a vertical direction toward the fold or crease under the breast. This is often referred to as the “lolli-pop” incision or “lejour” technique.
For the most complete breast lift, an incision is made around the areola, then down in a vertical direction toward the fold or crease under the breast, and then horizontally along the area of the fold or crease under the breast extending in varying lengths. This is commonly known as the “wise patter” or “anchor” approach.
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia at an outpatient surgery center and takes approximately 1 ½ to 2 hours to perform. Recovery time is approximately 5-7 days, and there are no drains. It is approximately 4 to 6 weeks before women can return to high impact exercising and upper body weight lifting. We ask that you wear a supportive bra at all times and no underwire for 3 months. After your breast lift, you can expect to be sore for about 5-7 days. You will be provided with a script for pain medication to ease your discomfort. You may notice bruising or discoloration around your breasts and along the incision lines which will decrease over time. The swelling associated with surgery will gradually resolve, and the sutures are dissolvable. It may take several weeks to months for the breast tissue to settle into place, round out, and take shape. Your scars will continue to smooth and fade while you heal, and you may apply topical scar cream or topical scar sheets to the incisions after 2 weeks.
After having a cosmetic surgery with Dr. Heck, all your follow-up visits will be complimentary for an entire year. To ensure optimal results, always continue to follow your post-operative instructions and follow-up with Dr. Heck as instructed. If any questions or concerns should arise, please notify Dr. Heck or his staff so that they can be addressed in a timely manner.
